FEAST aims to work with the local community to help the vulnerable people within it, and we try to keep most of our activities volunteer-led.

Our meal services wouldn’t be possible without the help of our fantastic team of volunteers, who support our journey by contributing whatever time and skills they have.

They might help out by collecting surplus food, cooking meals or delivering them, or they could contribute in other essential ways – for example, by helping us with admin work, filming, photography or marketing.

There are so many ways you can help us here at FEAST, and you never know what skills you could bring to the table!

Cook with Us

Every FEAST cooking session requires a strong team of enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to give us their time to prepare ingredients, and cook meals for our beneficiaries. Whether you’re a keen home cook, have professional experience, or just want to get stuck in and learn some new skills, there’s a role for you in one of our kitchens!

Our cooking sessions bring together volunteers from the community, joining forces to produce delicious, healthy meals. Together, our volunteers decide on a menu, based on the food we have in stock, and divide up the kitchen tasks between them.

This could include food preparation, cooking, cleaning, packaging, labelling, and washing up. During dining or lunch sessions where users eat in, our volunteers also serve up food.

It’s important to remember that you don’t need to be an experienced cook to join a FEAST session. You just need to be confident enough to cook with other volunteers, without the guidance of a chef. You need to be able to communicate well with others and be willing to cooperate when it comes to agreeing on what meals to prepare, and who performs which tasks each session.
Creativity is also a great asset because we only know what ingredients will be available on the day!

Deliver meals & collect donations with us

We work with a number of food-redistribution charities and retailers to source the food for our meals. This is the main way we play our part in reducing the amount of food that goes to waste, and this food is vital to make sure our service can function.

While some of our donations are delivered to us, plenty needs to be collected and dropped off at our kitchens. As some of these donations are bulky and come in crates, collecting food for us is a great volunteering opportunity for anyone with their own car.

Many of our meals are as well delivered straight to shelters, so whether you have your own vehicle or bicycle, you can help make sure our meals reach the people who need them. All you need is a mode of transport, and bags of enthusiasm!

FEAST With Us is conscious of our impact on the environment, which is why we’ve started a new low-emission delivery programme. We have ambitious plans to adapt all our meal-delivery routes, based on a cycling model, to reduce our reliance on cars.

Accessible volunteering

At FEAST, we welcome volunteers of all abilities. We have an Easy Read document to help you find out more about volunteering with us, and applying for a role.

Your at-a-glance guide to getting

started..…

  1. Get in touch, click on the button below and arrange an introductory phone call with a member of our team to talk about volunteering.

  2. If our opportunities and your interests align, you’ll be sent our induction pack, including access to our training platform, where you’ll find all the training material you need.

  3. All our cooking volunteers need to complete a short course on basic food hygiene and safety before their first session. Please note this is a mandatory part of the signing-up process. You will need access to a tablet or computer to complete the course. Although you could use your mobile phone it might be too small to read the course material.

  4. Volunteers signing up to drive will need to complete an ID check.

  5. Once you complete your training, cooking volunteers and drivers will be given access to our booking systems, where you’ll be able to sign up for opportunities that suit your schedule.

  6. We know life can get busy, so we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of two sessions a month.
